One of the first things I wanted to try with my Pot, was instant pot yogurt. I wasn't a fan of yogurt at all but was excited to learn how to make yogurt in the instant pot, and make this pressure cooker yogurt my own.

Making yogurt in the instant pot wasn't near as hard as I thought it would be. And this Instant Pot yogurt recipe proved to be one of the best. Instant pot yogurt recipe is so much better than store bought. Homemade instant pot yogurt is creamer, more delicious and also easy to make!

My homemade milk yogurt in the instant pot was so good, the at I will never go back to store-bought. And in my opinion, it is super easy to do. Just make sure you have an instant pot with the yogurt setting on it, and you will be making some of the best batches of yogurt you have ever tried!

How To Make Yogurt In The Instant Pot

You will need a couple of things to make Instant Pot Yogurt.

  • Dairy Milk (we like Full fat milk but here is a recipe for non-dairy yogurt too)
  • ice water (for the ice bath)
  • Instant pot with a yogurt function
  • thermometer (I like this one)
  • yogurt starter or yogurt with active cultures (you can just grab a single-serve yogurt that has live cultures)

Want a thicker greek like yogurt? No problem. Use this strainer to strain out the liquid once you have completed all the steps in the recipe for a thicker yogurt. When I say easy instant pot Greek yogurt recipe, I mean easy!

Just two simple ingredients and a little time and you can make homemade yogurt. If you have ever made it on the stovetop, you will probably find you prefer making instant pot yogurt recipes over other methods.

Straining gives this yogurt the thicker textureof a greek texture, which is terrific, and the only reasonI didn'tstrain it all is, this was a spur-of-the-moment decision and it was a good one.

Pressure cooking to make yogurt is probably one of the most genius things that you can do in the instant pot, you can boil the milk, and cool the milk in the same pot.

Homemade Yogurt In The Instant Pot

When youre ready to eat your yogurt, you can add some honey, granola or fresh berries.

The flavor of this yogurt tastes so much purer than store-bought yogurt, I am now a true fan of yogurt. This instant pot yogurt recipe is truly amazing.

I also use the plain, unsweetened yogurt to replace sour cream for toppings on tacos or even use this plain yogurt for the base of dips. For this, I like to use strained, Greek-style yogurt.

Trust me, plain, sweetened, or topped with granola and fruit; you will crave this yogurt.

Making Instant Pot Yogurt

I know that this recipe sounds like a chore because of the long cook time but trust me it is minimal steps in between! The flavor you get is so worth it, and it makes a good amount of yogurt that you and your family can enjoy.

Now if you like to have a lot of tang to your yogurt, just cook it for 10 hours instead of 8, and you will get that more tang factor. Cooking it in the Instant Pot allows you to customize it to fit your taste.

Cook Time: 9 hours

Total Time: 9 hours 5 minutes

How To Make Yogurt in The Instant Pot, and this Instant Pot Yogurt recipe is amazing! We even made this Greek Yogurt Ranch Dip. Homemade yogurt is the best.

Ingredients

  • 1 Gallon Milk
  • 2 TBS Yogurt, with live active cultures

Instructions

Sterilize Your Instant Pot

  1. Add 3 to 4 cups of water to your inner pot and put on lid and close the valve.
  2. Turn it on for 5 minutes high pressure.
  3. When it beeps release pressure, and carefully dump the water and put your inner pot in the fridge, to cool.
  4. Allow outer pot to cool completely before moving on to the next step.

Heat The Milk to 180

  1. When outer pot has cooled, place your inner pot back in and pour in the whole gallon of milk.

  3. Your pot will beep when this cycle is done, remove lid and use a digital thermometer to test temperature. I like mine to be between 180 and 185 (if it is not there yet repeat the boil cycle again, by hitting the cancel button on your pot and repeating the last step #2) Instant Pot Yogurt Recipe: How To Make Yogurt In The Instant Pot (9)

Cool The Milk to 105

  1. When you reach the correct temp, remove your inner pot to allow it to cool, you can either cool naturally, which will take about an hour.
  2. Or put it in an ice bath. You want the temp to be between 105 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Adding Your Starter

  2. Now add your starter. Wisk it in well with a very clean wisk.

  4. Press yogurt button and you will set it for 8 hours. If you like a tangier yogurt then allow this process to go for 10-18 hours.

  6. For thick greek yogurt, strain in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

Notes

Tips For Making Yogurt In The Instant Pot

  • If you get a sweetened or flavored yogurt starter, this will not work.
  • Using 2% milk will make a runnier yogurt. Use an extra TBS of the yogurt starter.
  • Whey is the liquid that separates from the yogurt its great in shakes and smothies and other natural drinks. Try this Fermented Strawberry Lemon-aid Soda.
  • You can store this yogurt in the fridge about 10 to 14 days. It may start to get a little more bitter after that.
  • Top your yogurt with your favorite toppings. If you want a sweeter yogurt you can add things like honeu, agave necter or syrup.
  • When your yogurt first finishes incubating, fill an ice tray with it and freeze as starter for your next yogurt batch. Once it is frozen you can remove from the ice tray and drop into a freezer bag.
