Ghostbusters turned 30 years old this June, which doesn't really have anything to do with why we decided to make a map of all the locations from the film. But it is kind of mind-boggling, especially considering how little most of those locations have changed in three decades. That's mostly because Ray, Egon, Venkman, and Winston managed to limit their adventures to iconic (and protected) New York City landmarks — the main branch of the New York Public Library, Columbia University, Rockefeller Center, and more. But enough talking, let's get to the map.

· The Film Locations of Ghostbusters (Part 1) (NY, You've Changed) [Scouting NY]
· Ghostbusters (1984) Filming Locations [The Movie District]

Ray: "At one p.m. at the main branch of the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue, ten people witnessed a free-floating, full-torso vaporous apparition."

Before they are unceremoniously dismissed, Egon, Ray, and Venkman work out of the "Department of Psychology" in Columbia's "Weaver Hall," which, in real life, is called Havemeyer Hall and is mainly used for science and math.

The newly minted Ghostbusters make a quick stop at "Manhattan City Bank" (really the Irving Trust Bank), across the street from the library, to take out a third mortgage on Ray's childhood home. "The interest rate for the first five years comes to ninety-five thousand dollars," Egon helpfully points out.

“The neighborhood is like a demilitarized zone,” Egon says when the Ghostbusters first visit the firehouse (Hook & Ladder #8) that will become their headquarters in Tribeca. So, some things have changed.

Dana's (and Louis's) building, seen here across Sheep Meadow in Central Park, was designed by Ivo Shandor, a shady doctor, occult enthusiast, and all-around creepy guy. As Ray explains, "The whole building is a huge super-conductive antenna that was designed and built expressly for the purpose of pulling in and concentrating spiritual turbulence. Your girlfriend, Pete, lives in the corner penthouse of Spook Central."

In real life 55 Central Park West is shorter and less menacing than it appears in the movie, and is also surrounded by more buildings.

After their battle with Slimer in the Sedgewick Hotel (the location for which was in Los Angeles), business picks up and the Ghostbusters are launched into a montage that takes them (among other un-mappable places) past Umberto's in Little Italy...

...and up to Rockefeller Center. The story goes that they did not get permission to shoot there and you can actually see a security guy running after them in the shot, but we couldn't find him.

Here, Venkman chats up Dana after she gets out of her rehearsal with a "major symphony orchestra." Her musician friend looks on jealously while leaning against the since-replaced fountain.

Louis's attempts to evade Gozer's demon dog take him to Tavern on the Green, where he bangs on the glass and is ignored by the patrons. (Perhaps they were preoccupied with their "prison slop" mac 'n' cheese.) Tavern on the Green closed in 2009 and reopened this year.

As the ectoplasm really starts to hit the fan, Ray and Winston drive across the Manhattan Bridge and discuss the possibility of the End of Days. It seems likely. (What were they doing in Brooklyn, though? Guess we'll never know.)

The Ghostbusters are summoned to City Hall where they defeat their nemesis, the EPA's Walter Peck, and win the trust of the mayor. It includes one of the great exchanges in movie history:

RAY: Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by dickless here.
WALTER PECK: They caused an explosion!
MAYOR: Is this true?
VENKMAN: Yes, it's true. This man has no dick.

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man rampages through Columbus Circle, which is actually making its second appearance in the movie. Earlier, Louis stumbled through while looking for the gatekeeper and got some weird looks from a group of Caribbean musicians, who were playing outdoors at night for some reason. Anyway, the Upper West Side really takes the brunt of the damage in this movie.
